On the Independence Day in 2019, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji ideated establishing a Sainik School at Gorakhpur, when he was highly impressed during his visit to CMKP, UP Sainik School Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh by then already had four Sainik Schools at Lucknow, Jhansi, Mainpuri and Amethi respectively & Sainik School Lucknow being the Pioneer Sainik School in India was established on 15 July 1960. On the lines of Sainik School Lucknow other Sainik Schools came into existence in 1961. Sainik School Lucknow maintained its uniqueness by being governed by UP Sainik School Society and UP State Government. Whereas all other Sainik Schools went into the folds of Ministry of Defence. To establish one more Sainik School on the lines of Sainik School Lucknow the idea of establishing Sainik School Gorakhpur was originated.
It is also a well-known fact that these Sainik Schools are situated in the central and western part of the state. Thereby, disbalancing the geographical and regional location of the schools proportionately in all parts of the state. With a vision to rationalize the regional representation and location, the government of Uttar Pradesh envisaged to establish the 5th Sainik School (2nd Sainik School to be governed by the UP government) at Gorakhpur under the aegis of UP Sainik Schools Society and Hon’ble Chief Minister as its chairman.
The foundation stone of this ambitious project was laid on 23 July 2021 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji. Immaculate planning and unblemished execution, finally witnessed the school becoming a reality in 2024.
The school is built over a sprawling area of 49 acres with a cost of Rs. 176.45 crore. With state of Art infrastructures & resources and sports facilities which are of International Standards, the School aspires to provide the best Military Oriented Public School Education to the young Boys and Girls of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The dreams of numerous saw the lights of the day when the first batch of 168 Cadets took admission in class VI & IX that includes 20 Girl Cadets each in class VI & IX and 64 Boy cadets each in class VI & IX in the academic session 2024-25. The entrance examination & interviews were conducted by its sister organisation CMKP, UP Sainik School Lucknow. The school will be adhering to the CBSE curriculum and the medium of instruction will be English language.
The school is committed to impart physically tough, cognitively robust, academically inclined and mentally symmetrical training and education to the budding and potential military leaders facilitating them to join the cradle of the Armed Forces and to be commissioned as Officers. Apart from regular classroom teachings, the school plans to focus on the refinement of the soft skills and social graces of the cadets.
Deptt. of Secondary Education, govt of UP under the stewardship of Shri Deepak Kumar, ACS, Secondary Education played a very pivotal role in the establishment of Sainik School Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. His proactive and pre-emptive approach towards accomplishment of assigned task is praiseworthy. His frequent visit and apt directions given from time to time were instrumental in achieving the goal in stipulated time frame.
The school became functional under the tutelage of Col Rajesh Raghav as its maiden Principal and his team on 01 July 2024. The school is optimistic of imparting holistic educational training to its cadets and also carried out a blue print of its ambitious plan to soon become the most sought after among other sainik schools in the state.
