Republic Day parade: School marching contingent and school band participated in Republic Day parade 2011, reviewed by His Excellency, the governor of UP, Sri B L Joshi. School contingents in both categories did exceedingly well winning accolades from all present on the occasion.

Martyrs’ Day: On Jul 3, 2011 around 7 am, the whole school congregated at the War Memorial, situated in the campus. The occasion was to commemorate the sacrifice of all the Martyrs who were once the shining cadets of the school. A formal wreath laying ceremony was held, led by the Registrar, Lt Col Desh Raj Mishra. Senior members of the faculty also paid condolences to the Martyr’s alongwith the school captain and other house appointments.

Investiture ceremony: On 15th July 2011, Founder’s Day of the school was celebrated. Conceived by the erstwhile Chief Minister of the state Late Dr Sampurnanand, in 1960 on this very day the school came into being. An impressive investiture ceremony was organised and during the piping in ceremony cadets were shouldered with the responsibilities of School Captain, Vice Captain, Adjutant and other house portfolios. These newly ordained duties to the senior cadets are viewed as precursors to the larger manifestations of the same type of duties once they are selected for defence forces.

Freshers’ evening: Customary to Sainik School traditions, this year also on 29th July 2011 the newly admitted class VII cadets presented a cultural show to the school. This activity is considered very important as it helps the new entrants to shed their inhibitions and in the due process get more confidence and self esteem so as to mingle up with the senior brothers and get acquainted with the tough school routine. The young cadets through their dramas, dances and singing skills mesmerised the audience and were hugely applauded by the audience.

Art Competition at State Lalit Kala Academy: In an Art Competition held at State Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow, cadets of Sainik School participated in large numbers, under the able guidance of Dr(Mrs) Vinita Bhatt – the Art teacher. The competition was held on 7th Aug 2011. The cadets displayed exemplary artistic skills and put their imaginations on canvas by using different strokes of colours. Cadet Shubham Singh of 9th class did the school proud by winning the second prize where as Cadet Satyajeet Chatterjee of class 12th was rewarded with consolation prize. These cadet also qualified for the regional level competition.

All India Late Flying Officer Animesh Srivastava Quiz

On 25th Aug, 2011 All India Inter School Late Flying Officer Animesh Srivastava Quiz Competition was held. Brig R P Kalita was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Army Public School, Nehru Road Lko lifted this year’s Trophy whereas Cadets of U P Sainik School Lko bagged the Runner’s Up Trophy. The third position was one by Lucknow Public School, LDA branch lko.

Inter House English Debate Competition

‘India should adopt one child policy for the development of the country’ was the topic of this year’s Inter House English Debate for Jrs which was organized on 29th Aug 2011. Nehru House won the Debate by leaving Shastri House to the second position. Cadet Mayank Yadav of NH bagged the first position and Cadet Sagun Siddhartha got the second position. Cadet Surya Pt Mishra and cdt Abhishek Itondia got the special prizes from the Principal for their exemplary performances.

In the seniors category cadet Dwaipayan and Nayandeep bagged the first and second position respectively. Cadet Ishant and Cadet Surya Prakash got the Special mention by the Principal.

International Geo-fest and National Geography Olympiad: It was held at City Montessori school, LDA branch and cadets of the school participated to display their co-curricular skills. Cadet Sohit Raja got 6th international rank in National Geography Olympiad. Cadet Satyajeet Chatterjee and Cadet Rajneesh Singh won consolation prizes in the Geotech competition.

Cadets’ participation at Regional Science City Centre: On the occasion of worlds science day the cadets of Sainik School participated in various competition at Regional Science City Centre, Aliganj, Lucknow. The performance of the cadets was praiseworthy as the cadets won 4 trophies for the school. In the category of ‘Peak and Speak’, Cadet Shagun Siddharth and Cadet Surya Prakash got the second prize. In the ‘Innovative Idea’ category Cadet Surya Prakash won the second prize and Cdt Shivam Pal got the consolation prize. This competition was very well lapped up by the cadets as it was an opportunity to boast off their scientific temper and innovative skills.

All India Inter School Late Capt Sunil Chandra English Debate Competition

‘To weed out corruption, Jan Lokpal Bill is not a panacea.’, was the Topic of this year’s Debate, held on Oct 14, 2011. The first position in this keenly contested Debate Competition was shared by U P Sainik School & Army Public School, Nehru Road lko. Amrendra Yadav, the Cadet of Military School, Dholpur bagged the first position in the individual category whereas Cadet Rishabh Sant Tiwari of U P Sainik School won the third slot. Cadet Dwaipayan Chatterjee got a special consolation prize for his outstanding performance. Military School, Dholpur got the second position in the Team category.

Amity University inspires UPSS talent: Six talented cadets of XI class got an opportunity to interact with fellow peers from other reputed schools and renowned scientist from across the country as part of a programme ‘Inspire’ organised at Amity University from 21-25 Oct 2011. The aim of the entire exercise was to inspire brilliant minds towards the studies of science at an early age.

Interaction with Maj Gen(Retd) K K Ohri – DG Amity University, Dr P K Seth – CEO Biotech Park, Dr R K Sharma- Head of Deptt Maths IIT Delhi, Dr CM Nantiyal – President ISEB, BSIP Lucknow alongwith fellow students left indelible mark on the minds of cadets to excel in their future endeavours. Cadet Arshil Abbas Naqvi, Cadet Rajnish Singh, Cadet Aniket Gupta and Cadet Rajput Saurabh did exceedingly well while competing with others and brought laurels for their school by securing first position in inter school quiz competition organised on the occasion.

Inter House cultural & Dramatics Competition: With a view to acquaint cadets with rich culture heritage of our country and giving them an opportunity to give vent to their hidden talent, Inter House cultural and Dramatics competition was organised from 8th to 11th Nov 2011. Cadets very successfully exhibited their creativity, imaginations and innovations through mind boggling performances. Besides fun and entertainment, the event was a learning experience for some and inspiration for others. Tandon and Pant Houses jointly lifted the winner’s trophy. Winner of various segments are as follows:

(a) Vandana, Decoration - Sampurnanand House & Shastri House

(b) English Play and Group Dance- Tandon Hosue and Pant House

(c) Hindi Play, Solo Song - Kidwai and Nehru House

Orchestra and Anchoring

(d) Best Actor (English) - Cdt Shagun Sidharth (Class IX)

(e) Best Actor (Hindi) - Cdt Ishant Trivedi (Class VIII)

(f) Best Dance - Cdt Abhay Gupta (Class VII)

Sports Activities:

Inter House Cricket Tournament: The new Academic session kick started with Inter House Cricket Tournament which held at the school’s cricket ground between 3rd April 2011 – 8th April 2011. In the seniors category the players of Kidwai House reigned supreme as Shabhaj Khan and Amit Singh bagged the best bowler and man of the series trophies respectively. But the tournament Trophy was lifted by Tandon House cadets who displayed exemplary cricketing skills and good team work. Cadet Vijay Bahadur Yadav of SN House was adjudged the Best Batsman. SN House got the second position and KH House had to console with the third position.

In the juniors category the house positions were as under:

Shastri House - 1st

Nehru House - 2nd

Pant House - 3rd

Cadet Arvind Rajput of Shastri House was selected as ‘The Player of the Tournament’.

Inter House Lawn Tennis tournament:

In cadets of this school are always given opportunities to avail the best facilities available in order to hone their sporting skills and in this view the inter House Lawn tennis Tournament provides the cadets the necessary impetus to master their skills in this sport. The tournament held from April 11 to April 18, 2011. In the Singles cadet Amit Singh bagged the first position whereas cadet Sushil Kushwaha bagged the second position and cadet Satyendra Tiwari got the third slot. The Doubles were won by cadet Shivam Verma and Aniket Gupta.

Inter House Basketball Tournament

From 11th to 13th July 2011, Inter House Basketball Tournament was organized and the Finals were held on 18th July. Cdt Aniket Kumar of SNH was adjust as the best player and the top scorer and thus helped his house to place at the top position. Kidwai House bagged the second position. In the Jrs category Amit Singh of SH was adjust as the Best player and the Top scorer and he also held his House to notch the first the first position whereas Pant House had to content with second position.

Inter House Volleyball Tournament

On 2nd Aug 2011, the Finals of Inter House Volleyball Tournament was played which was easily won by the Cadets of the Kidwai House under the able leadership of Cdt Amit Singh who was also honoured as the best player of the tournament. The Cadets of SN House could not come up to the expectations and relegated to the second position. Cdt Ajeet Pathak of NH outshone everybody by his maverick skills and he did tremendous efforts to place NH to top position, adjudged as the best player. The cadets of Pant House barely managed to get the second position.

Inter House Table Tennis Tournament

First time in the history of the School, Inter House Table Tennis Tournament was organized from 12th to 14th Sep 2011, which was hugely welcomed by the Cadets. Cadet Amit and Cadet Praveen Maurya won the Srs Doubles whereas Saurabh and Divyanshu had to content with the second position. In the Srs category Tandon House got the first position whereas Kidwai House got the second position. In the Jrs category Shastri House got the top slot, pushing back Nehru House to the second position.

Inter House Cross Country Race

On Sept 18, 2011 Sunday the School organized the Inter House Cross Country Race. In the Senior category Munesh Yadav of Tandon House covered the distance of 07 kms in 25.58 minutes and won the first position. In the Junior category cadet Alok Rawat of Pant House stood first by covering the distance of 05 kms. In the Seniors category Cadet Ankit Malli of Kidwai House and Manvendra Singh of Tandon House stood second and third respectively. Kidwai House lifted the Trophy whereas Shastri House did the same in the Juniors category.

Capt Manoj Pandey Memorial Football Tournament: UP Sainik School emerged as victorious in Capt Manoj Pandey, PVC Memorial Interschool Football Tournament by 5-3 in the tie breaker against Lucknow Montessori School held from 17th to 20th Oct 2011. Both the teams displayed a very stiff neck to neck fight upto last but the goalkeeper of UP Sainik School Cdt Vinay Singh led his team to victory by saving goals and he also emerged out as the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Cdt Gaur Mohan of UPSS was adjudged the best player. Runners up of the tournament were Lucknow Montessori School. Teams of UPSS, DAV, Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Chiranjeev Bharti and Police Modern School took part in the tournament. Col Sumar Vir Singh Principal UP Sainik School motivated the cadets by sharing his views about the game, appreciated sportsmanship and congratulated the winners. Shri Gopi Chand Pandey father of Late Capt Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC and the mother Mrs Mohini Pandey graced the occasion as Chief Guests. They gave away the prizes and blessed the cadets. Mr A V Singh, Principal - Lucknow Montessori School, Mr K D Shukla, Vice Principal - DAV, Mr R. Kumar, Principal - Chiranjeev Bharti and Brig(Retd) D N Varma were also present on the occasion.

Inter House Football Tournament: In the seniors category, this year Cadet Ankur Patel was adjudged as the best player and Cadet Udai Raj Patel was declared as the Best Goalkeeper. Tandon House lifted the trophy of this year’s Inter House Football Tournament, relegating Kidwai House to the second spot. The tournament was held from 2th to 5th Nov 2011.

In the juniors’ category, the cadets of Shastri House were winners all the way as they did not let the cadets of Pant House to snatch their top position. Cadet Praveen Singh were declared as the best player whereas cadet Rishi Chauhan shouldered the honour of being the best goalkeeper.

Inter House Hockey Tournament: Unlike Football, the cadets of SN House secured the top position in the Hockey Tournament. Kidwai House however reserved slot while giving a nail biting competition to the top rankers. Tandon House though played well but had to contend with third place. The tournament was organized from 15th to 17th Nov 2011

In the juniors’ category, the story was scripted in the same way as it was in Football. Shastri House topped the tally followed by Pant House and Nehru House respectively.

CBSE CLUSTER IV

Volleyball Tournament

Dayawati Modi Academy was the venue of the Volleyball Cluster IV, started on 2nd Nov 2011 and the first league match the players of Sainik School won convincingly and the winning streak continued in the second match against Little Flower House. In the match against Sainik School Nalanda, the players of the UPSS lost narrowly by 21-25.

Basketball Tournament

Under the Captaincy of Cdt Satendra Tiwari 13 cadets participated in the CBSE Cluster IV Basketball Tournament held in Varanasi at Little Flower House School. Mr Harpreet Singh was the Coach of the School team and Mr N Sreenu Babu accompanied the cadets as the Team Manager. In this tournament 54 teams took part and the Sainik School cadets reached to the Quarter Final levels. Unfortunately the School team lost in Quarter Final with 03 points difference, though the performances of the players were widely appreciated by the other teams and Cdt Aniket Kumar (Class XI) and Cdt Amit Singh (Class IX) were prominently praised.

Co Curricular Activities: Besides the above, misc co-curricular activities were held during the year in order to afford opportunities to cadets to give vent to their hidden talent. Details of activities and the cadets who excelled are as follows:
